SCENES AROUND SOUTH AMERICA IN 49 DAYS- SERIES #6

ONE DAY IN PUERTO MADRYN, ARGENTINA
FEBRUARY 17,2012

HOLA! BIENVENIDOS! We are back to Argentina. We got 4 beautiful ports in this country. Today we arrived at Puerto Madryn. If you haven't heard about Puerto Madryn, you're in for a nice treat! A lovely resort located on the eastern Atlantic coast of Argentina. Worth a trip!

The clear blue waters of the Nuevo Gulf and Atlantic Ocean coupled w/ numerous sandy beaches had made this place an extremely popular summer destination in Argentina.

It was a beautiful morning walk at nearby pier and downtown Puerto Madryn. For the first time, I wore layered clothing. When we got off the ship, the weather was chilly w/ cold wind blowing. Ole.... Puerto Madryn! COOL! Very Cold! "Hace Frio!" (in Spanish).

"BUENOS TARDES!" Had afternoon tour. Our tour bus drove us around Puntas Cuevas. Stopped for photo shoot.

BEAUTIFUL SCENERY ALONG THE COAST
Soon, it was a long drive w/ bumpy bus ride on a gravel road. We visited a 7,400 acre estate called Estancia San Guillermo. This working sheep ranch was home to an enchanting menagerie of animals & pets. We mingled w/ some horses and super-friendly guanacos. My favorite were the sheep. So meek!

                          FLOCK OF SHEEP
Inside the sheep shed we witnessed members of the ranch's large flock of sheep being deftly relieved of their woolly coats. The sheep were so silent. Didn't fight back.

A SHEEP COAT DISPLAYED ON THE TABLE

WOW! What an interesting demo! Before, I thought this would be a BORING TOUR. But it was very informative. A sheep woolly coat took a year to grow as huge as a picnic table. No wonder, the sheep are valuable critters. They provided food and wool for clothing. Very pricey! On the other hand the sheep nature were worth noticing. Sheep were single minded, skittish & near-sighted. They were one of the few creatures who, if left on their own, would totally destroy their pasture. Were easily and prone to wandering. Required constant attention.

Seeing those sheep reminded me of one of my favorite chapters in the Bible- Psalms 23. The chapter spoke of the Lord as my shepherd. Metaphorically, the term "shepherd" was used for God. In the  Bible, Jesus was called the Good Shepherd.

The important role of a shepherd was the care & protection of his flock. Jesus pointed out in further biblical statements, that a good shepherd would give his life for his flock. The shepherd would lead his flock to pasture & water. Tend to their wounds. Guide them. Calm them. Keep them together. And rescue them from dangers. He was the sole provider of all that the flock needed. What a touching object lesson!

SEA LION COLONY
Next, our tour bus drove us to Punta Loma. The drive was very inspiring. Aquamarine ocean! Most striking attraction in Puerto Madyrn were its natural beauties and habitats. We visited a colony of sea lions. There were sea lions as far as they eyes could see.

CLOSE UP OF SEA LION
Today marked the 29th day of our 49 days South America cruise. More than half way. Life was beautiful like the relationship of the Good Shepherd & the sheep. It was a profound spiritual lesson for us today. Surely God, the Good shepherd took care of us and guided us along the way and ocean waves. His constant presence & protection deeply filled in our lives.
