SCENES AROUND SOUTH AMERICA IN 49 DAYS - SERIES #8

HOLA! BUENOS DIAS!
FEBRUARY 21,2013
We arrived at Ushuaia. The first thing to learn about Ushuaia was how to pronounce its name ( oo shoo-AYE-ah). We were back to Argentina again. Well, we arrived at Ushuaia. The capital of Argentine portion of the island of Tierra del Fuego. Separated from the Argentine mainland by the Strait of Magellan. Ushuaia was spectacularly located. Its absolutely beautiful and surrounded by snow capped mountains and a bay.

LOVELY TOWN W/ SHOPS ON THE MAIN STREET
Ushuaia, oh Ushuaia!!!! Bienvenidos!
It was bone-chilling cold and gusty when we got off the tender to the port. It was overcast. And by mid-morning it was sunny. One thing unique about this place especially in summer was that you could have rain, sun and even snow on the same day.

Today we did a tour w/ Shore Excursion. We diverted from the pricey tours from the cruise ship. We liked our small group of 6 couples. No long wait for others.  We could hear the tour guide better. We started our tour w/ enjoyable sightseeing through the city passing through the Pipo River Valley into Tierra del Fuego National Park. This pristine wilderness preserve protecting the southern area of the sub-antartic forest was the subject of an eye-popping drive w/ abundant photo opportunities. There were three major attractions. First stop was Ensenada Bay overlooking the fabled Beagle channel.

We arrived at the last stop on Pan-American Highway, a marvel of civil engineering that began in Alaska and stretched nearly 12,000 miles across two continents.

POSING AT THE BAHIA LAPATIA SIGN- END OF THE WORLD

The end of the road here. The actual end of the Pan-American highway was in Tierra del fuego. So we went here. Also the end of the world.

VISITOR CENTER OF TIERRA DEL FUEGO NATIONAL PARK. A HIGHLY RATED NATIONAL PARK.

There was certain curiosity about  visiting this very far flung place. What a wonderful feeling be here as we left our footsteps. HURRA A USHUIA!!! Known also as "El fin Del Mundo" (End Of the world). Not becauise of Armagedon was upon us, but because geographically & literally we have reached the tip of South America. Ushuai being labelled the southernmost city of the world was an attraction on its own.

"There's a room at the end of the world......Where your memories are safe."
